This site, close to the Nidderdale Way, has been recently identified and has not yet been the subject of a detailed investigation but it is clear that it consists of an adit and its associated spoil heap. There is stone walkway on the spoil heap and shale that is typical of the waste from iron mining in this area is clearly visible.

It is likely that this site is associated with smelting activity at Long Laithe 250 metres away where slag has been discovered.

Closer to Lofthouse in Backstone Gill a slag heap has been discovered alongside evidence of bloomery furnaces and other aspects of historic iron manufacture.
